Adhesive and underlayment should be selected for the exact flooring product, subfloor and installation method. A product that works for one engineered hardwood system is not automatically appropriate for another.
Start with the installation method
Engineered hardwood may be installed by glue-down, nail-down or floating methods depending on the product and project conditions. Follow the installation requirements for the exact flooring selected.
Concrete slab projects
Concrete should be evaluated for moisture and flatness before installation. Moisture-control products, primers or compatible adhesives may be required depending on the slab conditions and flooring system.
Underlayment for floating floors
For floating installations, confirm the underlayment thickness, vapor-control requirements and compatibility with the locking system. Avoid adding layers that are not approved for the product.
Do not choose by brand name alone
Compatibility, trowel size, spread rate, open time, moisture limits and substrate requirements all matter. The installer should confirm the final system before installation.
